Don’t let non-networked laser printers slip through the cracks

Part of our analysis for a managed print relationship is to provide a summary of current printers, volumes and costs for our clients. Once you start investigating a fleet of more than 20 or 30 devices, it makes sense to use a software tool to report back the devices.

The challenge with these tools is they typically will report network printers by communicating with an I.P. address. They do not report local printing devices. We often times move on with our MPS (Managed Print Services) summary and recommendation because an I.T. manager will explain that all of the devices are on the network, or don’t worry about the local printers because they are not heavily used.

Our DocuLife Line software has a tool that can assist in capturing both the networked printers and MFPs as well as the locals. The Local Beacon software can be loaded at the PC level and will tie in the local printers to the network printer summary.
